What is Cervical Cancer?
Cancer is a disease in which cells in the body grow out of control. When cancer starts in the cervix, it is called cervical cancer. The cervix is part of a woman’s reproductive system.
Who is at Risk?
- All women are at risk for cervical cancer.
- It often occurs in women over the age of 30.
- Having a long-lasting infection with certain types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) increases your risk.
What Should You Know?
- Cervical cancer can often be prevented.
- Getting a pap smear and vaccinated (shots) for HPV are the best ways to keep from getting the disease.
- Doctors can now test for the HPV that are most likely to cause cervical cancer at the same time as the pap smear.
- If you have an abnormal HPV or pap smear result this will lead to further tests which can diagnose cervical cancer.
- Cervical cancer is easier to cure when found and treated early.

Shasta Community Health Center has a women’s health clinic with female clinicians who can give you a pap smear. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday. Call (530) 246-5710 to schedule a visit. Most insurance cover this for free.
COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
Join us for a FREE vaccine clinic on Friday, January 14th! The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine and booster will be available for anyone 5 years old and up. This clinic will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at 3270 Churn Creek Road.
