December Patient Newsletter

Shasta Community Maternity Center

We are excited to announce that starting January 2, 2019, SCHC will be taking over the Mercy Maternity Center. The new Shasta Community Maternity Center will be offering the same services in the same location as Mercy’s center. We are also pleased that many of Mercy’s clinicians and staff will be joining the SCHC team and will continue to provide services at the new center. If you are a current patient of Mercy Maternity Center, here are some details you need to know:

  • Starting on December 17, 2018, all services provided by Mercy Maternity Center at 1900 Railroad Ave. in Redding will be relocated to the Mercy Family Health Clinic located at 2480 Sonoma St. in Redding.
  • Next, starting on December 27, 2018, the Mercy Maternity Center will close and stop providing services.
  • Lastly, starting on January 2, 2019, Shasta Community Maternity Center will open in the same location as the Mercy Maternity Center.

Giving Tuesday: Thank You

November 27th was Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back to and supporting charities and organizations all across the country. We don’t have the official total yet, but this year your generous support helped SCHC raise about $4000 for our Reach Out & Read program. You are helping us put a book in the tiny hands of 1000 children!

Healthier Holidays

As you celebrate with your loved ones, think of little changes you can make to create healthier meals and active days.

  • Enjoy all the food groups Follow MyPlate by enjoying whole grain rices and breads, grabbing veggies, and trying fruit filled desserts.
  • Make sure your protein is lean Choose lean meats like turkey or trim any fat you can see from other options.
  • Cheers to good health Quench your thirst with low-calorie options so you don’t drink your calories.
  • Small shifts to the sweet Try cutting the amount of sugar listed in recipes in half. For dessert, try baked apples with cinnamon and a sprinkle of sugar instead of apple pie.
  • Be the life of the party Laugh, mingle, dance, and play games. Focus on fun and enjoy the company of others.
  • Make exercise a part of the fun Make being active a part of your holiday tradition. Have fun walking and talking after a holiday meal.
  • Enjoy left overs Create delicious new meals with your leftovers. Add turkey to soup or salad. Use extra veggies in omelets or sandwiches.
