Tobacco Education Coalition

The Shasta County Tobacco Education Coalition is an alliance of community organizations and individuals collaborating on the common goal of tobacco prevention and health promotion. Its purpose is to (1) advocate for policies that regulate tobacco in Shasta County; (2) collaborate with adjoining cities, business communities, public health agencies, churches, schools, and community-based organizations; (3) serve as an advisory body to the Shasta County Public Health Tobacco Education Program; and (4) assist in program development, implementation, and evaluation of the local tobacco control plan throughout the Shasta community.

Shasta Early Literary Partnership

The purpose of the Shasta Early Literacy Project is to encourage all parents to read to their child to improve school readiness. Research shows that children who start school without the necessary early literacy skills generally stay behind their peers and have more difficulty in school and later in life. Reading to young children daily is important to their development. In Shasta County, we want adults to "Take 10" minutes each day to read to a child, then "Take 10" minutes again because twenty minutes a day will increase their vocabulary, instill a love of reading, and provide important bonding time between adults and children.

Partnership HealthPlan of California

Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC) is a health care program that makes sure all members can get health care and can choose a primary care provider (provider). All members (except in special cases) are assigned to a provider. Members need to go to their assigned provider first for all of their primary care needs, or care that helps people stay healthy. If the provider decides that specialty care is needed, he/she will refer the member for that care. PHC also offers resources for different health issues.
