C. Dean Germano

Mr. Germano has been the CEO of SCHC since 1992 and has over 36 years of healthcare management experience.  He holds a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Mr. Germano has overseen expansion of the health center over the last 28 years, with particularly extensive growth during the last 15 years.  Mr. Germano oversees care to 40,000 unduplicated patients, providing over 135,000 visits a year in a multi-specialty type practice that include mental health and dental. Over 92% of patients served live below the federal poverty line. Mr. Germano has helped lead two very successful major capital campaigns resulting in over $7.0 million in gifts and grants for capital expansion needs of the Health Center.

Mr. Germano is past Board President of the California Primary Care Association and now Board Emeritus with CPCA. In addition he is the past Chair of the Shasta County Public Health Advisory Board, and was a member and past-Chair of the Golden Umbrella and Senior Nutrition Centers (Dignity Health Affiliates) Advisory Board in Redding, CA. Mr. Germano is also past Chair and current member of the Health Alliance of Northern California (HANC) that represents Federally Qualified Health Centers in this region with its members working with hospitals and medical groups in creating positive community health systems changes in our region. Beginning in 2006 Mr. Germano was selected to the Board of the California Endowment, a $3+ billion statewide healthcare foundation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all Californians. In 2012 he served as Vice-Chair of the Board of The California Endowment, and finished his nine year term at The California Endowment as the Chair of its Board of Directors in 2015. In 2017 Mr. Germano was recognized by Leadership Redding as its Alumnus of the Year. In June 2019, Mr. Germano, representing and on behalf of the Association for Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) as well as the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the American Association of Teaching Health Centers (AATHC) testified at the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health on those federal programs that support the work of Health Centers throughout the United States.
