Redding Water Fluoridation – It’s Only Natural! It’s Only a Matter of Time!

Despite the recent set-back caused by a deceptive ballot measure, Shasta Community Health Center and its many supporters will continue to press for time-tested and extremely successful and safe public health interventions like community water fluoridation. We believe that the ballot measure will ultimately prove to be illegal if not unenforceable when tested in the courts. It is truly unfortunate that a small group of people backed by nothing other than junk science and conspiracy theories can, through their actions, perpetuate the poor state of oral health among our children in Redding. The passing of Measure A will neither improve the health of our children nor of the community in general. Those who truly have a mission to accomplish the goal of improving community health will continue to work towards that goal. Over the last couple of years, it was explained that to significantly and positively impact the oral health of our community, particularly our children, we need good oral health community education, we need a dental system that provides good access to quality dental care for vulnerable populations and we need broader public health interventions like community water fluoridation, dental sealant/fluoride varnish school based programs to name but a few. Without any of the three major interventions the potential to improve the oral health of our community is greatly diminished. Shasta Community Health Center is dedicated to do what it takes to improve and protect the health of our community, particularly for our children. We will continue to play a part in furthering that goal in concert with our many community partners and we look forward to the long overdue presence of water fluoridation in Redding.
